Third bake sale raises £32.60

Thanks to colleagues at Racepoint for raising £17.60, and to Hal for another generous donation of £10 (and for cleaning up after me once again!). These two lonely cakes were left over, so I'll be trying to sell them to my mum and dad later today!

Update: sold the last two cakes to mam and dad for a generous £5, bringing the total to £32.60.

Third Cakes for Life Bake Sale

It's December, so the third bake sale definitely had to have a festive feel, but I decided not to go OTT with decorations. The black forest cupcakes look nice and wintry because of the snow. The others don't look very festive, but they're made with ginger and cinnamon so should taste just like Christmas!

Credit goes to Amy Lane for her black forest recipe (although I did improvise a bit too) and to Hummingbird Bakery for the ginger cupcake recipe.

Second bake sale raises £43.59

It's taken me a little while to update this, but I'd like to thank all my colleagues at Racepoint for showing their support once again and helping me raise £33.59 for Cancer Research UK. A special shout out to Hal for cleaning up the mess I made in the kitchen and for a very generous donation of £10, taking the grand total up to £43.59 for my second bake sale. After just two bake sales and some generous donations from friends and family who haven't even tried the cakes yet, I've reached 26% of my target for the year. Maybe I should up the ante! Watch this space for a festive bake sale coming very soon....

Second Cakes for Life Bake Sale

Believe it or not, it's been a whole month since the first bake sale. This month's cakes have a Thanksgiving theme. OK, so I'm not American, but I'm selling them at work and our company is American...'but Thanksgiving was last week' I hear you say? Well, sorry but I was a tad busy moving house and then my electric whisk broke down.

On the menu this month are carrot-cake cupcakes with an orange butter cream frosting and I even tried my hand at whoopie pies for the first time. These ones are pumpkin whoopie pies with cream cheese frosting, courtesy of the new Violet cakes recipe book I got from my sister-in-law (shhh, it was a Christmas present I opened early!).

First Cakes for Life Bake Sale

With the first bake sale so close to Halloween, it seemed rude not to get into the spirit.

It's 10.45pm and the cakes are packed up ready to take to work in the morning. I hope I can get them there in one piece so I can raise lots of donations!

This month's cupcakes were based on this basic chocolate cupcake recipe topped with the a cream cheese icing, from the Hummingbird recipe book.

The pumpkin (expertly carved by Hal), will serve as this month's honesty box.

Here's hoping the first bake sale will be a success and that my colleagues will write me some reviews in the comments section (or at least pick a rating anyway!).

Welcome to Cakes for Life

So, I have a bit of a thing about cupcakes. Trouble is, I tend not to bake them as then I end up eating too many of them…

So, Cakes for Life is born: I hereby pledge to bake some (cup)cakes about once a month and ‘sell’ them to my lovely colleagues in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

On this blog, I plan to post pictures of my creations, updates on the amount of money raised, reviews of my creations (if my colleagues will be so kind as to oblige) and possibly share some recipes, hints and tips – although I’m not sure if I want to give that away!

You can even donate to Cancer Research UK without indulging in my cakes!
